Day 35: Healthy Parenting

And fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4)
Parenting today has become an increasingly difficult task. With shrinking family size, decreasing support from the extended family and increasing rate of the two-income family, children tend to be neglected. Little time and opportunity is available for children to interact meaningfully with parents or other adults in the family. As a result there is little teaching, discipline and guidance for children. Parents need to prioritise their activities, plan their time wisely and manage their financial resources prudently so that their children get enough attention and opportunities to interact and learn from them. Expensive toys and electronic gadgets are very poor substitutes for effective parenting. Parents also need to learn to be effective in raising their children--through reading published materials on the subject, attending seminars and talks, discussing the issue with other parents, etc.

Prayer Points:

  • Parents to place their families as high priority
  • Parents to embrace the task of parenting their own children
  • Parents to equip themselves with biblical as well as up-to-date parenting approachesand skill
  • Parents to be role models and not just lecturing.

Prayer Shield: for our elders, pastors and leaders
Leaders’ character: Forgiving
