Day 31: Cultural Arts

And the Word became flesh, and tabernacled among us. And we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and of truth. (John 1:14)... but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. (Philemon 2:7)
Culture and arts are closely related. Most cultures find expression in Arts. They each have their individual music, clothing, architecture, literature, language etc. Culture often defines the identity of the community. Identification is an important tool to gain access into a community. While cultural arts may be employed for religious purposes, it can be redeemed and used to communicate the Gospel. This is what it means by incarnating the Gospel--delivering the Gospel clothed in the culture of a particular community. Using cultural arts is one effective way to contextualize the gospel into communities.
