KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU

it's not the ABBA song in focus here..
rather the issue of relationships in the church..
we aim (and often look up to) churches with an exhaustive membership roll..
the more, the merrier...
and the more human resources we have, the better the choices..
but, are we ready to "handle" the numbers?

who do we really know in church?
aside from the "Hi" / "Bye" in passing..
aside from the little chit chat about politics & the weather over a cup of coffee..
aside from the usual folks who sit North South East West of us at our usual spot in the pews..
aside from the "he/she is the (insert familial connection) of (insert name)"..
aside from who is talented in what/can do what/achieved what..

it's quite disheartening to realize..
that we know more about our colleagues/friends/neighbors..
and their distant relatives/friends/neighbors..
than we do our own church members..

please note there is no condemnation in this post to anyone at all..

rather, this writer hopes to awaken a realization..
that we all need to make an effort..
to know our brother & sister in Christ on a deeper/personal/intimate level..
to a level where you are able to open up to a sibling in Christ..
and for a sibling in Christ to open up to you..

this writer for one, is tired..
tired of wearing the "weekday mask"..
if home and family is where we can be our true selves..
what better place to be our true selves but church?
who better to accept our true selves but our siblings in Christ?
